CHEERING THE BOYS ON - CALDERDALE COLLEGE DANCE ACADEMY ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL CHEERLEADERS TO HALIFAX RUGBY LEAGUE FC

Paula's daugher Leah is the captain of the cheerleading squad and Paula is delighted to have the opportunity to sponsor Halifax Rugby League FC's new cheerleaders.

Halifax Rugby League FC’s game against Australian champions Melbourne Storm on Friday (22 February) will have added dash and sparkle, thanks to their newly appointed cheerleaders from the Calderdale College Dance Academy.

The Dance Academy has tied up with Halifax RLFC to provide extra support to the team at all their home games this season and 14 girls are making their debut at the Shay at Friday’s game. The girls’ blue and white pom poms will be at the ready to entertain the crowd of 3,000 spectators before the game commences and again at half time. Their uniforms have been sponsored by business strategy and market development company Boreas Partnership (UK).

Sky TV and the BBC will be filming the game, billed as a warm up fixture for Melbourne Storm before their clash with Leeds Rhinos at the Carnegie World Club Challenge at Elland Road on February 29th.

Mike Riley, Commercial Director of Halifax RLFC said “Having Calderdale College Dance Academy provide us with trained dancers as our cheerleaders ensures that we’ll be hosting a professional performance for everyone watching. We’re absolutely delighted that they will be cheering us on for the rest of the season as well. We are determined to be professional both on and off the field as we approach our application to Super League.”

Calderdale College Dance Academy Director Peter Coenen added “With such accomplished dancers involved, we’ll be able make the cheerleading choreographically interesting and more challenging than people might expect. Performing to a crowd of 3,000 and in front of TV cameras will be quite a debut!”

Dance Academy student Leah Ormerod, 16, already has six years’ experience as a cheerleader, competing with the Candy Reds Cheerleaders in Burnley where she also teaches their Junior squad. She is unfazed by the prospect of performing to such a large crowd. “I’m so excited and I really can’t wait until Friday”, she said. “It’s just going to be amazing!
